Taking Credit Where Others Have Worked

WP and their supporters lost no time in taking credit when Minister Tan Chuan Jin announced that benefits for unwed mothers would be reviewed.

NUS Professor Daniel Goh, who is very likely one of WP's candidate for the coming election, was all praise for Lee Li Lian for raising the issue.

And then there is Mothership with their headline proudly declaring that 'Lee Li Lian mooted idea for more aid for single mothers in 2013 by-election rally'.

We're not sure whether to 'facepalm', laugh or feel vexed.

Maybe for some history began only with them but seriously, let us not forget that others before Lee Li Lian have done the same and spoken no less passionately than Lee Li Lian, others like Grace Fu, Irene Ng, Seah Kian Peng, Janil Puthucheary, Lily Neo, Siew Kum Hong, Lina Chiam and Kuik Shiao-Yin, just to name a few.

It is the collective effort of many, together with the passage of time that saw norms changing and people opening up, that makes the time now more suitable for a review.

WP and their supporters should not kid themselves, be selfish and greedy and ignore the collective effort that many had put in over the years paving the way for today. Acknowledge and give credit to all who have spoken in one way or another. No one person is solely responsible for the review.
