For the first time, 59-year-old Workers' Party chief Low Thia Khiang faced a contest for the post of secretary-general on Sunday 29 May.
Fellow MP in Aljunied GRC, Chen Show Mao mounted a challenge for the post.
Sources say Mr Low retained his seat with 61 votes to Mr Chen's 45.
